I was almost involved in an early morning accident when my car skidded in an underpass due to an oil spill on the road & it was drizzling at the same time. 8 cars ahead of me had already hit each other, with 2 cars over-turning and landing in the opposite direction.
My 1st instinct was to avoid hitting the car ahead of me, but it also meant that I could end up hitting the walls of the underpass. It was a risky choice but I had to make a split second judgement call. Hitting the car ahead of me meant involving another person.
I slammed on my brakes, twisted my steering wheel, and pulled on the handbrakes. The car continued skidding but stopped inches away from the wall, and barely a foot from the car. I ended up facing the wall head on, with the car on my side. I son cried out wanting to call his dad. We were both badly shaken up, but I did not realised how bad it had effected my son until he kept saying that his body is all cold and jelly-like.
We continued our journey to my son's school with me reassuring him that, thank God, we are safe. When we arrived at his school, he asked if he could tell his friends about it. I told him it would be a good idea. It might help calm his nerves.
I continued my journey to work feeling nervous each time I take a curve or bend as my car started skidding just as I was about to take the curve at the underpass.
I thank God for protecting us from harm. Alhamdulillah syukur.
