We could not be there..........

Today, our eldest niece, Kuya, got married. It was held in Kota Bharu

Despite the flood crisis and all, the ceremony itself went on smoothly. We wanted to be there to lend support to her. Her own mum could not be there. We wanted to surprise her (our niece).

We have been performing the “Sembahyang Hajat” every day, ever since we made plans to fly up to Kota Bharu for the wedding. We prayed that the floods will subside, and the rain will stop, so that my niece can go through with her akad nikah, and we can fly up for the ceremony.

My sister Adura has been keeping us informed of the flood situation daily, and as the flood worsens, we kept praying for a miracle

Our flight was supposed to be at 3.30pm today, 28th December. Her original date for the akad nikah was supposed to be on the 29th morning. But due to unpredictable weather conditions and rising flood water levels, they decided to have the ceremony earlier, throwing our plans to surprise her off tangent.

Even as late as 11.00am today, we were all (hubby, son and I) still set and ready to catch the 3.30pm flight with the hope that the akad nikah will be held after 5.00pm so that we can still make it on time, even if we have to take the lorry to the ceremony, like my mum did.

But at 12.00noon, my niece told me that the akad nikah will take place before Zohor, which means that it will take place before 1.00pm. She said that it is starting to rain again, and she doesn't want to take any chances. She has every right to be worried. The weather is so unpredictable.

My heart sank. I am going to miss my niece's wedding. My very first niece’s wedding. It felt like it was only yesterday that I was bringing her and her sister Kuyana around to family gatherings. Now she is getting married.

I do so want to be there for her, but how? I have no private jet...

It was too late to change our tickets to an earlier flight.

By then, she had already known of my plans to fly up to KB for her ceremony. I told her about it the night before to give her moral support. I told her that I will try my very best to be there.

I felt restless all afternoon today, during the time that I assumed was the time the ceremony took place.

I feel sad that I could not be there for my niece. I so wanted to be there for her, but the worsening flood, and unconfirmed time of akad nikah due to unpredictable weather conditions just wasn't working in our favour to make the trip.

So it was nice to finally see photos of the ceremony my sister posted. I cried....

Congratulations, Kuya, and Felix. You look so very pretty today.

Sorry we could not be there on your big day. We tried......

May you have a long and happy marriage with lots of kids. Big hugs!

Missing Little Robin

I miss Robin, a kitten who made our house his home a month ago.

He came one day when I was outstation and hubby decided to feed him.

The next day he came again and I gave him milk which he drank like he hasn't eaten in over a week

I took him to the vet to have him vaccinated and give him flea medicine last week. I also gave him a good shampooing as he wanted to come into the house to play.

I have come to love him and miss him when I am away.

Today, like any day, we would let him out to play.

He usually does not go far. He would just play around our back yard. But now it is already 6.00pm, and he is still not yet back, whereas Jack and Jane, our other 2 cats have come home about an hour ago.

I feel so sad. I hope he comes home before we retire for the day.....

A Challenging 1st 4 days......

It's been quite a challenge the first 4 days of the fasting month.

I had a splitting headache on the 1st day of Ramadhan after we went out to Bazaar Ramadhan in Shah Alam when the sun was still very hot. Before the headache could go away, I had a bad case of diarrhea.

To top it up, Aiman came down with a high fever that Thursday morning after sahur.

His fever subsided for a while only to be replaced with a bad case of diarrhea. He had to miss his flight back to Langkawi on Saturday due to the high fever and diarrhea. I hope he will recover quickly enough to take the next possible flight back to Langkawi this coming week.

I am still having a headache and was taking panadol but because of the continuous hot weather, and the diarrhea, the headache was hard to subside. It became a cycle.

I get diarrhea, my body gets dehydrated and my tummy is empty, giving rise to gastric. The gastric would go up to my head, giving me a headache.

I try to eat when berbuka puasa, but my tummy refuses to accept the food because it is already filled with gas. I end up having no appetite or would throw out everything I ate if I push myself to eat. It’s becoming a vicious cycle. No food - empty tummy – giving rise to gastric - get a headache.

At 2.00am Sunday morning, I woke up with a bad case of diarrhea again. I took a pill of charcoal and tried going back to bed, and managed to sleep another hour before it was time to get up and prepare sahur.

This morning for sahur, I decided to make Aiman's favourite rice - Nasi Beriani, so that we would both have the appetite to eat.

Aiman managed to finished a big plate of Nasi Beriani, while I managed to  eat enough with the hope that it will sustain long enough in my tummy to solve my gastric problem and in turn, solve my headache problem.

I managed to find a sachet of pill chit kit teck aun, a Chinese medicine known to cure diarrhoea. I must remember to buy more to keep as standby in the house.

I took that and went to bed, but not before going to the bathroom another 2 more times.

I woke up at 7.15am this morning feeling much better, Alhamdullillah.  I was feeling well enough to do the laundry, sort out the already folded clothes and put them into their appropriate places in the closet, organised my mum’s room a bit and now feeling good enough to sit down for a longer time to write and go online.

I hope that is the end of my headache and gastric problems. I hope Allah will grant me the wish for me to be able to do my ibadah puasa with calmness and patience and to be able to do my sembahyang terawih with my hubby on weekends and all other ibadah that is required of me to be a good muslim, InsyaAllah. Amin.

On another note, Ma and Lin, please don’t worry. I am feeling much better today. You both worrying about me is only making me worry more and would only make me have a headache thinking of you worrying about me. I just need some time alone to do my own things with a little less chaos because the office is chaos enough already. See you this Saturday!

Lots of love and big hugs!

Take your health seriously!

I have come to realized that getting enough rest and sleep is very important.

I am going through some serious health issues lately due to the fact that I am not sleeping well, and not resting enough the last few years. Pressure and stress at work is not helping me to take better care of my health.

The accumulation of not enough sleep and rest over the last few years is now starting to show and I am going through so many health issues lately. It has come to even be scary to a certain extent.

I have trouble sleeping. I get up and just trying to get myself to fall asleep again gets me all stressed out. When I am all stressed out, my blood pressure goes up.

By the time I finally fall asleep again, it's time for me to get up. I end up not having enough sleep for the day, and driving to work becomes a heavy task as I try to fight my sleepiness.

When I don't get enough sleep, another problem that crops up is that I end up having wind problems, and as a result, I have a bad gastric problem.

When the gastric problem gets so bad, it goes up to my head and I get a splitting headache. Sometimes taking a dose of panadol helps, but sometimes, when it gets to be so bad, even panadol no longer works.

I would try taking some anti acid medicine like Actal, but, by then, the wind in my head is so great that it pushes against my brain, or least, it feels like that. And that is the scariest part because I could no longer think rationally and is easily angry even by the slightest mistake I make or get all flustered if I can't find things I am looking for.

Now I have to lay out my things properly so I know where my things are or I plan my day one day ahead in advance so that I don't get all flustered.

A visit to my family doctor last week has tremendously helped me to get rid of the wind in my stomach and in my head. Thank God, I am feeling much better, and I hope that I will never have to expereince that terrible headache I have been experiencing the last 3 weeks, because it got to a point when it was beginning to get real scary.

However, now, I have to be careful of what I eat as any food that emits wind is something I will have to learn to avoid.

I am also slowly learning to delegate more work to my subordinates and taking more off days, especially when Aiman is back home.

Even my boss who is also having some health issues is starting to leave the office earlier than usual to go to the gym these days, so I might just follow his footsteps and come home early enough before I get too tired to go on my recumbent bike at least 15 - 20 minutes a day.

I hope everyone will take care of their health.

I hope to live a long, healthy and meaningful life with my hubby so that we may get to see Aiman grow up and succeed in life, insyaAllah.

Take care, everyone! HUGS!

An anxious moment

Last week Aiman lost his MP3. This week he lost something more important - his wallet which contains his identity card, his bank card and some money.

Luckily there wasn't much money in his bank account, but we were concern on the loss of his identity card as he needed it in order for him to go for his outings, and most of all, to take the flight back home this coming fasting month.

We got all anxious when we found out that he had lost his wallet with all the important documents in it. Our plan to just spend some time going around and do some shopping at KLCC since it is not always that we get to go there and we were already there to attend a Seminar just went down the drain.

We quickly headed home to try to sort the matter out. First thing was to call his teacher to get permission to take him out of school for a short while so that he may go and make a new IC.

Next, hubby had to purchase an emergency ticket to go to Langkawi to take him out of school so that he may take him to the Registration Department in Langkawi. We want the IC to be ready in time as he needed it for his trip back for the Puasa month.

He did not seem the least bit worried or concerned when he called us to tell us that he had lost his wallet. Instead of going in search of the wallet, he went to play football. It was us that were all anxious as we were concerned that without his IC, it would be quite a hassle to get onto the flight home. *sigh*

After all the hassle we went through to call up his teacher and to buy the plane tickets, guess what?

Late last night he called to say that he finally found his wallet - his friend actually did, but it was already minus RM40.00. But, alhamdullillah, his IC and bank card were intact.

Hubby flew to Langkawi anyway because the tickets were already bought and it was too late to cancel. At the very least, it's to see him to give him a stern lecture on responsibilities and to give him his futsal boots which he needed for his tournament next weekend. With the money stolen, he is now out of cash. *sigh*

I hope that Aiman will be more responsible and understand the anxiety and difficulty he has gotten us into when he misplaced his wallet containing his IC, bank card and money when he went to buy food at his school foodcourt, or, kiosk, as he calls it.

No matter what, I love him very much and miss him lots!

8 March 2013 - A day spent with Aiman

This was supposed to be posted more than 2 months ago, but, as usual, things don't always go according to plan. That's life, I suppose! LOL!

Anyway, this is more for Aiman's future reading.

I was in Langkawi on 8th March 2013 and this was my thoughts for the day.....
It was nice to be able to spend some quality time with Aiman today.

I flew in to Langkawi in the morning, rented a car and checked into a hotel .

I had planned it (check into a hotel) with Aiman days earlier on what we were going to do together when I visit.

The plan was, after picking him up, we would come back to the hotel to order room service as Aiman wouldn't have had his lunch yet when l pick him up as he would have just be done with his Friday prayers.

When we came back to the hotel, we found the price of a simple fried kuew teow to be too expensive at RM26 a plate.

I suggested to Aiman that we just have lunch at a restaurant nearby,  but Aiman was tired and sleepy. He just wanted to stay in the hotel room. So I went down and got us each  Fried Rice.

Aiman finished his Fried Rice in minutes. LOL!

He must be really hungry, it being 3.00pm already. Either that, or the Fried Rice must have really tasted nice compared to the meals he has been having at his Asrama. *grin*

After lunch, Aiman set himself up on the bed to watch football on TV, something he missed very much.

I gave him until 4.00pm to watch TV as I wanted him to take a short nap when he complained that he was tired and sleepy, having had a very active week the week before.

He managed to get at least 40 minutes of nap time. I felt sorry for him when I had to wake him up at 5.00pm, seeing how deep in sleep he was. But we had to get going.

I still needed to take him to the barber as he needed to have a hair cut before I send him back to school.  He has to be back before 6.00pm.

However,  when we got to the barber, there was a long queue. We hardly had 30 minutes to spare before I had to send him back to school. So we decided to abandon the idea of getting a hair cut for that day and we headed straight to his school.

When we got to his school, it was 5.40pm. I wanted to stay in the car awhile to chit chat with him some more, but he was anxious and eager to join his friends for a game of badminton.

Boys! You come all the way to see him and he is in a hurry to play with his friends!

When we talk on the phone, he tells us that wants us to come visit. When we come visit, he is in a hurry to go back to his dorm! *sigh*

However, not wanting to get him all anxious,  we said our goodbyes with hugs and kisses.

As I see him walk into his school building, I cannot help but feel a lump in my throat. I miss my baby already.

I consoled myself by saying that at least he looked more settled than he was just 2 weeks ago, on the phone, when he was calling me, crying, not wanting me to go home as I was getting ready to board the plane after just dropping him off in school just an hour earlier.

Love you, Sayang! Take care!

A Journal for Aiman - a page from FB, 22 Feb. 2013 (Part 1)

I guess being an only child, Aiman is afraid to ask for help even when he really needs it and is too shy to even ask his teachers and friends a simply question that is not related to school. He is even afraid of his cousin whom he is actually close to and is only 2 years older than him.

He would rather come to mummy or Abah for help or ask mummy or abah to call his teachers rather than go ask himself, like when he had the diarrhea, he called us to ask us to call his teacher/warden that he is suffering from diarrhea.

When I told him to ask his cousin to go along with him to see the teacher, he said that his cousin might scold him for waking him up at 5.00 in the morning.

This is something he will have to learn to survive in this world, although we would be there to guide him where we can. It will take time but I hope that he will be strong to go through this stage and phase of his life.

It took me several weeks to adjust when I went to boarding school but then again, my parents visited me every week during the adjustment period.

I could only visit Aiman once a month and on his last trip home, I wasn't around as I was in the US for work. I guess him not meeting me during his last trip home could probably have something to do with him going through all this emotions currently. He misses me but would not admit it outright. LOL! *wink*

During this adjustment period, I feel that I have not had much time to settle down to do my own thing, or even focus on work entirely, as I spend a lot of time on the phone giving him encouragement and moral support, draining myself mentally in the process.

Soon, I hope, Aiman will adjust so that we may move on to the next stage, insyaAllah.

A Journal for Aiman - a page from FB, 15 and 16 Feb. 2013

Entry posted on 15th February 2013

It's one month today that we sent Aiman to Langkawi. When we left him a month ago, he was eager to join his friends to play football. Each night that he calls us, he always seems to be in a hurry to join his friends in their chit chats before lights out.

We visited him 10 days after leaving him for the first time and he was all excited to tell us what he had gone through the last 10 days.

A few days before he was to fly home for the CNY holidays, he called me several times and he wanted to talk longer and was upset when I yold him that international calls are expensive.

We spoke for a minimum of 10 minutes at a time.

On the day he was to fly home, he called me at 1.55am New York time all excited to tell me that he is on the way to the airport.

Hubby said that he was all excited upon seeing hubby and did not mention anything about missing me though there were a few small signs. Even when hubby sent him to the airport to fly back to Langkawi, he showed no signs of not wanting to go back.

This morning he called me at 3.00am complaining of diarrhea and that he has had to change his clothes twice. I told him to go and see the warden but he was afraid, it being 3.00am. He was crying. He wants me to come over.

I told him that I can only be there earliest on Saturday but he kept insisting that I come. I told him to calm down and to try to get some sleep and go see the warden as soon as daylight breaks.

He called me again at 4.00am and told me that he had to change his clothes again. This time he wants me to come get him as he wants to come home.

I felt sick in the heart. My baby needs me and I am 100s of km away. Again I tried to calm him down and told him to go look for his cousin Abang Ayin but he was afraid that Abang Ayin would scold him it being only 4.00am.

I talked to him until he was simply exhausted and fell asleep. How do any parents go through such crisis? I am heart sick and wish that I could hold him and tell him that everything will be ok.

A scary experience........

I have not been very well since the 5th of May (notice the significance of this date? *wink*). Well, I actually started not to feel well on the 4th of May when I got caught in the rain upon coming back from a friend's son's wedding.

It was starting to hurt to swallow even just my saliva, and my nose was getting congested. I took Panadol and Clarinase and went to bed early that 4th of May.

It was Election Day on the 5th of May and the plan was that after the weekly maid leaves, we would go over to the Sekolah Agama near our house for me to cast my vote, and then we would proceed to Bangsar where my hubby would cast his vote. Our plan was to have lunch and then proceed to my MIL"s house for a visit.

That morning of the 5th, I woke up with a splitting headache but forced myself to get up since the maid was coming and I still had breakfast to prepare and the laundry to do.

After breakfast, I took another dose of the Panadol and Clarinase, and took a short 20 minutes nap. I told my hubby to go ahead to Bangsar to cast his vote and for him to come back to pick me up later so that I may go and cast my vote.

But after the 20 minutes nap, I felt slightly better and told hubby that we can go ahead with our original plan of going out to cast our votes after the weekly maid goes back.

With a slightly throbbing headache, I went to cast my vote at about 1.00pm.

Luckily the queue was not that long since I think many had already casted their votes early in the morning or had gone off for lunch.

Hubby dropped me off at Bangsar Shoppin Complex while he went to cast his vote. I spent the time waiting for him at Quilt Gallery, one of my favourite craft shops in town, chatting up with the staff there. Even managed to get myself a Jelly Roll! LOL! *wink*

My hubby and I met for lunch at Nando's before we proceeded over to my in-law's house. When we got there, after greeting my in-laws and telling them that I wasn't feeling too good, I went into the guest bedroom to lie down, and without realising it, I fell asleep.

I was woken up by a call from my son. It was nice to hear his voice, and made me feel much better.

We left my in-laws' house after a short chat and along the way, I decided that I really wasn't feeling that well and told hubby that I think I would like to go to the clinic to get some medicine, at least for my throat that was feeling very sore and inflamed.

I was right, my throat was inflamed, and at that time too, when the doctor checked my blood pressure, she noticed that my blood pressure was a little on the high side - 180/100. But she assured me that it could be because I was not feeling well. At that time I told her that even before this when I am sick, my blood pressure has never been high. But she dismissed it as it was just anxiety but told me to come back again in 3 days time when she expects my flu to subside to come back to check my blood pressure again.

The doctor gave me some antibiotics, cold and cough medicine and an MC.

I went home and after dinner, was about to take my antibiotics when I felt uneasy upon reading the name of the antibiotics - Cephalexin.

This clinic had once before prescribed me an antibiotics in the Penicillin family despite the fact that it was clearly stated in my record that I am allergic to Penicillin. I had already taken one dosage when I got a call from a frantic clinic assistant asking me to come back to change my medication.

I was already starting to feel dizzy then and told hubby to go and change the medication. That was some years ago, and luckily, I recovered quickly from the dizziness and nothing more serious happened.

Taking lessons from that, I googled Cephalexin and each webpage that I went to stated that precaution must be taken if one is allergic to Penicillin. I called the clinic wanting to talk to the doctor that prescribed the antibiotics to me but the clinic assistant came back to me to tell me that the doctor said that it was from a different family from the Penicillin.

I wasn't satisfied with the answer and not wanting to take any risk, I decided not to take the antibiotics that night. Instead, the next morning, I went back to the clinic seeking further assurance that Cephalexin would be safe for me to consume.

I saw a different doctor that morning, and after looking at my record, without asking much questions, the doctor immediately changed my antibiotics. Phew! Glad that I am more diligent when it comes to antibiotics. Syukur, alhamdullillah.

The day, the 6th of May, I spent the whole day sleeping. I could hardly keep my eyes open, which I believe was due to the medication and spent the day with the TV watching me sleep. heheh....

I only got up to make myself lunch of instant noodle.

When hubby got home at 7.00pm with dinner, I was feeling much better.

After dinner, I took my medication and went to bed early.

However, at 5.00am, I woke up like as if I had just gone through a bad dream. I had dreamt of a lorry filled with 1000s of soccer balls spinning. Next came a lorry filled with 1000s of shoes, also spinning. The 3rd lorry carried timber, also all spinning. I felt like everything was about to land on me.

I woke up crying like I just had a nightmare. My head felt like it was about to burst and I felt like as if I was about to go crazy when the throbbing to my head was like something was pushing inside my head. It was scary!

Hubby told me to calm down by reciting the dua kalimah syahadah, which I did, and after I had calmed down a bit, hubby decided to take my blood pressure and was shocked to see that the reading was about 186/115. But I told hubby that it could be because I had just had a nightmare.

I told him that I want to get up and do my hajat prayers as that usually calms me down.

However, even after I did my prayers, I still felt like my head was about to burst. I think all those things spinning in the lorry was like the present burden at work that everyone seems to load on me. I am starting to feel suffocated by it all and needed fresh air!

My most trusted, hard working and capable officer just got a promotion and was on transfer. Despite my attempts to keep him in my Unit since we had so many projects and prestigious ones too at that, no one wanted to listen, or rather, they didn't feel that it was that crucial for the officer to stay on in the same Unit.

Since my officer's transfer, I had been going to meetings non-stop, which, before this I would have been able to divide the meetings with him, jet setting from Penang to Johor to Kota Bharu to Kedah all in a span of two week, on certain days, arriving late at night from one flight, and catching a 7.00am flight the next day. I was burned out.

To top that up, there was this one particular prestigious project which no one in the department wanted to do, and it was finally entrusted on me to do. I am not one to push away responsibilities but this particular project was beyond me to take up when my most entrusted and reliable officer is no longer with me.

I tried to tell the people in the top management that unless this particular officer stays on with me, I am unable to do this project. But I felt like no one was listening as my request to keep my officer with me was rejected.

Everyday, as I run from one project meeting to the next, the client department for this one prestigious project was calling the office, wanting reports, schedules, and asking for us to call for a meeting so that the project can take off as soon as possible.

My schedule was tight already from meetings set much earlier and for projects equally important. My head was spinning trying to juggle my time. I think that was the start of my blood pressure rising.

That Tuesday morning, despite my high BP reading, I still went to the office because I had a meeting and I could not delegate it to anyone else to attend the meeting since I was short staffed.

On Wednesday, I was supposed to attend a Workshop on Project Management, but spent  most part of the day on the phone when a crisis arise at the office.

Usually, when I am away from the office, my capable officer would handle any crisis at the office and would only consult me if he could no longer handle it or needed me to make a decision. It was hard trying to focus on the Workshop when I had to keep leaving the Seminar Room to take calls.

By the end of the day, I think my BP shot up again when I felt like a jabbing pain at the back of my neck.

After the Workshop that Wednesday, I drove straight to the clinic, this time to the family clinic who we have been visiting for the past 20 years.

I told him about the pain to the back of my head and of the high BP readings of the last few days. He was shocked when my BP reading that evening was 186/115 and immediately told me that I am not going to work the next day and to be on MC for the next 2 days. I told him that I want to fly off to Langkawi on Friday so that I may see my son whom I miss so very much.

He said all the more so that I should be on MC so that I can stay home to try to fully recover from the high blood pressure, the stress of work and the flu which did not seem to want to subside.

I had trouble sleeping too and that could also have contributed to my high BP readings. The doctor prescribed me sleeping pills for 2 days so that I may get some sleep to relax.

The next day, Thursday, 8th May, it was another day spent sleeping. I posted this on FB. I wish I didn't, because it got my mum and sister worried.....

My mum insisted that I go to the hospital so that I can get myself admitted. Truthfully, I did not want to go to the hospital because I wanted to be able to take the flight to Langkawi to visit my son, but I didn't want my mum to worry, so I promised her that I will.

When hubby came home from work, we discussed this and hubby suggested that since the doctor said that it was OK for me to fly, so it was agreed that we would go ahead and take the flight to Langkawi and from the airport, after picking up our son, we would head straight to the hospital in Langkawi.

I packed my bag that evening, ready to spend a couple of extra days in Langkawi, including if I have to be admitted.

At the hospital in Langkawi, my first reading was again 186/115. The nurse gave me a medicine to take, and took me to a bed to rest for one hour. I slept throughout that one hour, and when the reading was taken again, it had gone down to 150/80.

I was allowed to go home with the instructions for me to take another reading the next day at a government clinic near to our hotel.  I spent the rest of the evening with my son up until the time for us to send him back to his hostel.

It was a good feeling to have him with me though he was frustrated that he did not get to spend some time at the hotel since we had not checked into the hotel since arriving in Langkawi.

The next morning, after breakfast, we made our way to the nearby clinic for another BP reading and it registered 140/80. A slight improvement, but since we were not local, I was not admitted and I was just told to take another reading when I get back to KL.

I felt much better, and we spent the rest of morning attending a PIBG meeting or Mesyuarat Muafakat as they call it as Aiman's school.

After the meeting, which ended at about 2.00pm, we took Aiman out for lunch and for him to buy his weekly supplies. We spent the rest of the evening in the hotel room before it was time for us to send Aiman back to his hostel and for us to take our flight back to KL.

I was tired but feeling much better. The head wasn't throbbing too much. The presence of my son helped, I think, psychologically, to make me feel better. That was why I insisted that I wanted to see my son as I had missed him so much.

We arrived late from our flight from Langkawi and after refreshing ourselves, went straight to bed.

The next day, still feeling tired from the trip to Langkawi, we went for another BP reading, this time at Serdang Hospital. I had left my bag unpack from the trip the night before, thinking that I might need the bag in a hurry as I just might get admitted since I wasn't feeling too good.

However, despite a BP reading of 169/100, I wasn't admitted, but only told to take another reading the next day.

The next day, I went to Tanglin Hospital since it was closer to my office to get another BP reading.

I was hoping that I wouldn't be admitted when I went to Tanglin Hospital after the 6th day that my BP reading was high because I don't like hospital stays, but when the nurse checked my BP and told me that it was 196/115, I almost fainted and was very sure that I was going to be admitted. But the nurse assumed that that was my 1st BP reading and it was just anxiety.

When I told her that that day was the 6th day that my BP was high, she just told me that the doctor will decide what to do next.

When I met the doctor and gave her my BP readings from my visits to 3 clinics and 2 hospitals, she asked if I was going through any stress at work or if I had a family history of hypertension, and when I answered yes to both questions, she just prescribed me medication, told me to go for a blood test and that's it. No MC.

Since I didn't get an MC, I just went to the office as my head wasn't throbbing as much as it did the last few days. I also had a meeting which I could not delegate since I was short of a Senior Officer to attend the meeting.

I am feeling much better since taking the medication. Today, my BP reading is 137/87. I hope it will keep on improving and be back to normal.

This experience and bouts of high BP readings in the last 2 weeks had been very scary. It was something I have never experienced before, and hope that I will never have to experience that again.

I am trying to work something out at the office so that I need no longer carry this burden of heavy workload and stress alone. My immediate boss is aware of my present health condition and has been very understanding and kind.

I told him that I need to take some time off from work, especially during this school holidays so that I may spend some time with my son. I just need to get things organised at work and delegate some work to my junior officers so that I can take leave without having to worry too much about problems at work.

To my mum and sister, and all my friends, and my hubby too, who have been concerned about my health, thank you. It's good to know that people care. Hugs, everyone!

A Trip of a Lifetime - to the US and the UK (Part 6) – More of New York!

I got up early on my first morning in New York. Even though I hardly slept the night before, but I was eager to get up as I was excited to meet up with my brother and SIL who I have not met in over 2 years!

He will be meeting me after my visit to another special school.

As soon as we were done with breakfast, we headed on to Professor Juan Bosch Public School located on Ellwood St., Manhattan, which adopts the AS Nest program for high-functioning autistic children who are mainstreamed in small classes. They also have classes that mix a variety of children with special needs with general education students.

You can read more about it here.

Again, no photos were allowed, except for these.

Between this school and the two previous schools we visited in Washington D.C., I find the program that this school adopts to be the most interesting because this school does not separate the special need children with the mainstream children.

They pride themselves in being a school of inclusion where children with special needs are included early into the mainstream education as soon and as early as possible so that they may lead as normal a life as possible as other children.

We were brought to visit some of the classrooms while the teachings were going on and despite trying very hard to try to distinguish between the children with normal needs and those with special needs, we could not tell the difference.

The only tell tale signs were when we were shown the tables of the special children as their tables had pictorial signs fixed on them as pictures are used as their learning tools.

Compared to the Ivymount School that has a ratio of teacher student of almost 1:1, this school has 2 teachers in a classroom of 4 – 6 children, some even up to 12 children.

When we were done at the school, we had the rest of the day free for us to do some sightseeing and do some shopping, as our next agenda was only on the next day.

When I came out of the school, I thought I saw a glimpse of someone familiar. But of course! My brother and SIL were already waiting for me when I got out! LOL!

My brother had driven all the way from New Jersey, guided by the schedule that I had emailed to him prior to coming, so that he knows where I will be during the whole trip that I was in the US. He knew what time I would be done at the school, knowing how punctual Americans are!

After a quick introduction to all the members of the delegation, Dato’ Harjeet teased me by jokingly said that I am excused from the group today to spend time with my brother and SIL. *grin*

From left: Fauwaz, Dato' Harjeet, Azezee, Dato' Noraini, Eli (SIL), me and Dr. Hasnah

We stayed on awhile to see the group off and then proceeded to take more photographs in front of the school before we headed on to our first agenda for the day – a visit to a craft store which I could only ever dream that I would someday see it in person! LOL!

Want to know which craft shop we went to? Wait for the next posting! *wink*

Day 5 to be continued! – 6th February 2013 - more excitement to share!
