An attempt to skip

Aiman was down with fever all day today. He has been sick since yesterday evening. I hardly slept as my hubby and I got woken up by him several times during the night with him tossing and turning, as his temperature fluctuated through the night.

Almost all day today I spent my time sponging him down to bring his temperature of 40 degrees C down. It would come down for a while before spiking up again within the hour. Several times I would put him under a warm shower for 10 minutes to bring the temperature down, but still his fever wouldn't subside.

In the evening, after an exhaustive day of sponging him down and putting him under the shower, I decided on another method to try to cool his body down by getting him to sweat as he did not sweat at all today. I told him to skip, little realising that my son actually has never skipped. *grin*

Here he is in his attempt to skip.

He did sweat, but still not enough to bring his body tempearture down. We just got back from the clinic again just now (11.45 pm) since Aiman's fever did not break at all despite all the sponging and warm bath that I gave him all day, and the skipping that he did.

He is finally sleeping more soundly now compared to last night after another dose of fever medicine. I just hope that he sleeps well through the night. I need my rest too. It's been a very long day......

I tried an age-old remedy my grandma told me when my son was down with very high fever. Try putting thick tamarind paste on his forehead (near the hairline) and under the armpits. A bit messy yes, but it helps the child to sweat and that would eliminate the excess heat from the body. Anyway, hope he's fine now. So cute of him to try skip hehe...

kesian Aiman, I hope he is fine now. As for me, if my kids or I got high fever, I will drink a big mug of hot milo or tea then balut dengan selimut dan baring di dalam bilik yang tidak berair-cond/kipas, kejap aje peluh dah keluar dan rasa lega. Hope this help.

Za, here's some points from the old school of thott...for a child in fever.

Each time my children were fevering, the health visitor advised me to sponge him/her in all the folds...armpits, under the neck, between thighs...it worked. but of course patience was the ultimate factor of it all.

When showering him/her, start from the feet upwards so that the tempreture escapes through the head and cools down gradually and never to shower from head down, as it suppressed the heat from escaping.

Hope these remedies help as well. Salam to you and Aiman
